Note: To determine whether you can use snow chains on your vehicle, or if they might affect your ABS/EPS functionality, consult your owner's manual.

These chains are great for giving you a little extra traction in the snow. But if you live somewhere where you experience heavy snow often, you'll definitely want something more heavy duty than cables. Because these cable chains are lightweight and don't take up a lot of storage space, they are also perfect for keeping in your truck if you occasionally travel through areas that require you to have chains on hand.

Class S Designation

SAE Class S tire chains are designed for use on passenger vehicles with restricted wheel-well clearance. Most newer cars, vans, and small trucks - especially those with large aftermarket tires - will require Class S chains. If you're unsure about the class of your vehicle, consult your vehicle's user manual.

SAE Class S Clearance Diagram

These chains will fit your tires provided there is both:

  • A - a minimum of 1.46" (37 mm) between the top of the tire tread and the wheel well
  • B - at least 0.59" (15 mm) between the tire's sidewall and the vehicle

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer. You'll also need to know how much clearance is in your wheel well, which you can determine by measuring from your tire tread to the sidewall of the wheel well.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. Even low-profile chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

Installing Cable Chains

Installing these chains is simple.

Lay chains on the ground.

1. Lay out the chains on the ground to make sure there are no twists or kinks.

Drape chain over tire.

2. Drape the chain over the tire or lay the chain out and drive onto it.

Connect cable behind tire.

3. Reach around to the back of the tire and fasten the rear side cable by running the end with the metal stops through the eye of the hook on the opposite end.

Secure excess cable.

4. Run any excess side cable through the metal clip.

Repeat around front.

5. Repeat this process on the front side of the tire.

Install rubber adjusters

6. Drive forward 1 car length, then check the chain and hand tighten it again if needed.

Rubber adjusters (sold separately) are recommended to help ensure a tight fit. Connect these to the front side of the cable in a star pattern. Make sure the hooks face away from your tire so your wheels don't get scratched.

Quick Tips:

  • Lengthen the life of snow chains by drying them after each use before you store them.
  • Check out our installation kit with safety lights and a kneeling pad (PO34FRK) to make things a little easier when you're installing chains out in the snow.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chains, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire, as shown below.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

  • Recommended Tire Chains for 35x12.5x20 Sized Tires on 2012 Ford F-250 4-Wheel Drive
The Titan Chain Tire Chains w Cams # TC3235CAM are confirmed to fit your 35x12.5x20 sized tires. They do have built in cam tighteners so additional adjusters are not necessarily required although they can make things easier. For a rubber adjsut you can use # TCMA2 and for a link and spring adjuster use # TCSA2. I found an online owner's manual for your 2012 Ford F-250 to see what Ford says about using chains. You should check yours to verify. It states that Class S compatible chains...

  • Snow Chains or Snow Cables for Winnebago Adventurer Motorhome
For a larger/heavier vehicle like your Winnebago Adventurer, I do recommend going with the Titan Chain Snow Tire Chains # TC4239 over a cable type like the Titan Chain Cable style # TC2039 that you mentioned. Even for a "just-in-case" set of chains to have on hand if needed, I would be feel much more comfortable having a set of heavy-duty chains like the Titan units, as they're just going to provide much better traction in the snow/ice than cables. Chains are also going to hold up much...

  • Recommended Tire Chains for 255/70-22.5 Tires on Nexus Ghost Super Class C Motorhome
Due to the size of the tires on your Super Class C, the tire chains available aren't what would be considered 'low profile'. For good all around traction, I'd recommend the Titan Chain twist links snow chains would work well for you. If you have single rear wheels, use # TC2239CAM or # TC3269CAM for dual rear wheels. For a low-profile option, you'd need cable chains, part # TC2039 for singles or # TC4039 for dual rear wheels.

  • Recommended Cable Chains for 1998 Toyota 4Runner with 255/80R17 Size Tires
I spoke with my contact at Titan and he stated that the Titan Chain Cable Snow Tire Chains # TC2039 will actually not work well with the 225/80R17 size tires on your Toyota 4Runner. He said this cable set is too large for a tight fit on this tire size. For cable chains that will provide a better fit, he recommends going with the Titan # TC2028. These are the same ladder pattern type cable chains that you were looking at that will do a nice job of giving your vehicle better traction in...

  • Tire Chains
Unfortunately, we do not offer any chains with rim protection for your size. I spoke with Pewag, and there was nothing they could offer for this. For your 235/80-22.5 tires, I recommend the Titan Chain Cable Snow Tire Chains, part # TC2039. These are cable chains, so there's not as much metal to damage your rims. I've linked to a video review below.

  • Tire Chain Fit for 325/60-20 Tires on 2020 Ford F-150
Titan Chain confirms that their # TC2539 Diamond HD Alloy Square Link tire chains are indeed a fit for the 325/60-20 tire size, but they aren't Class S rated which is what your owner's manual specifies. Class S chains will provide greater clearance to the wheel well and the braking/suspension components located inboard of the wheels. We offer two options that are Class S rated and are compatible with your 325/60-20 tires. The Titan # TC2039 are cable chains which are intended to provide...
